چکیده

In this talk we discuss some of the main theoretical problems in the understanding of the statistical properties of gravity. By means of N-body simulations we approach the problem of understanding the rôle of gravity in the clustering of a finite set of N-interacting particles which samples a portion of an infinite system. Through the use of the conditional average density, we study the evolution of the clustering for the system putting in evidence some interesting and not yet understood features of the

Scaling Relations for Gravitational Clustering in Two Dimensions

It is known that radial collapse around density peaks can explain the key features of the evolution of a correlation function in gravitational clustering in three dimensions. The same model also makes speciÐc predictions for two dimensions. In this paper we test these predictions in two dimensions with the help of N-body simulations. We Ðnd that there is no stable clustering in the extremely no...

Scale Dependence of Nonlinear Gravitational Clustering in the Universe

We extend the thermodynamic theory of gravitational clustering in an expanding Universe to include the scale dependence of the ratio, b, of gravitational correlation energy to thermal energy. The predicted form of the gravitational quasi-equilibrium distribution function is unchanged by this scale dependence. This generalization of the theory contains no free parameters, and clariies many earli...

Universality of power law correlations in gravitational clus- tering

– We present an analysis of different sets of gravitational N-body simulations, all describing the dynamics of discrete particles with a small initial velocity dispersion. They encompass very different initial particle configurations, different numerical algorithms for the computation of the force, with or without the space expansion of cosmological models. Despite these differences we find in ...

The Evolution of Correlation Functions and Power Spectra in Gravitational Clustering

Hamilton et al. (1991) proposed a simple formula relating the nonlinear autocorrelation function of the mass distribution to the primordial spectrum of density fluctuations for gravitational clustering in an Ω = 1 universe. We present high resolution N-body simulations which show this formula to work well for scale-free spectra P (k) ∝ kn when n ∼ 0, but not when n < −1. We show that a modified...

Large-scale non-Gaussian mass function and halo bias: tests on N-body simulations

The description of the abundance and clustering of halos for non-Gaussian initial conditions has recently received renewed interest, motivated by the forthcoming large galaxy and cluster surveys, which can potentially yield constraints of order unity on the non-Gaussianity parameter fNL. We present tests on N-body simulations of analytical formulae describing the halo abundance and clustering f...
